OSI group is currently ranked as the leading firms in the world thanks to its current president and CEO Sheldon Lavin. The company that was started some 100 years ago by a German immigrant Otto Kalchowsky has now expanded to over 16 countries around the world. Sheldon might not have been there at the beginning but his time at the company and his involvement with it is one to be admired.
The man started in the banking sector and running his own consultancy firm when he came into paths with the company. The company at that time called Otto and sons was looking to expand into international markets. He joined first as a partner in the 1970s before joining permanently later on. He attributed this attraction to the culture he witnessed at the company of treating each worker as a family, a culture he still maintains up to date.
When Sheldon Lavin joined the company it was only based in the United States of America. He embarked on an aggressive expansion campaign. The company started its expansion first to North America and Europe. Later, they expanded to Taiwan and South America. This later saw the company expand to Australia, China, Japan, South Africa, and the Philippines. During this time Sheldon Lavin was making his way up into the company. He had acquired a majority shareholding in the company and was sitting at the CEO and the president of the company positions he currently holds.
These expansions have seen the company recognized globally by different institutions. Forbes magazine ranked OSI group as the 58th largest privately held company in 2016. The sharp clump from 166th to 58th can be attributed to the recent acquisition of Baho food and Flagship Europe. The company was also ranked as the 66th leading food and beverage company in the world. Under the leadership of Sheldon Lavin, OSI group received the Globe of Honour Award which by the British Safety Council.
At a personal level, Sheldon Lavin is termed as a philanthropic individual. His philanthropy has seen him assist organizations and worthwhile charity groups like Evans Charity fund, Jewish United Fund, Ronald McDonald House Charities among others. This made him recognized by the Indian Vision World Academy in India with the Global Visionary Award which he received on the February 20th, 2016. Sheldon Lavin leadership in OSI group truly reflects his handwork, patience, and perseverance just as the award showed him to be.
