David McDonald is a businessman who lives in the greater Chicago area. He holds an undergraduate degree in animal science that he acquired at Iowa State University in 1987. Once he graduated he went into the food processing industry. He started working for OSI Group, LLC and like many people at this company he has made the choice to spend his entire career there, eventually becoming a project manager. He is now this company’s president and chief operating officer. He also serves on the board of directors.
Beyond OSI Group, David McDonald is involved in the food industry in a number of ways. For example, he is the chairman of the board for the North American Meat Institute. He once worked for Marfrig Global Foods S.A. as an independent director. He has extensive experience in business management, operations, environmental responsibility, and food safety he has garnered over the course of his career.
OSI Group is a privately held company owned by its chief executive officer Sheldon Lavin. It has facilities in a number of American cities as well as overseas in both Asia and Europe. This company creates value-added proteins for its clients which range from fast food restaurants to grocery store private brands. One of its biggest markets is China where it has eight food processing facilities, mostly processing chicken. It’s the goal of David McDonald to make his company the largest provider of chicken in China in the coming years.
David McDonald is also focused on Europe. He handled the negotiations when his company bought two huge suppliers of value-added processed food in that region in 2016. The first company he negotiated to acquire was the Dutch firm Baho Foods. He said this was a great fit for his company and their existing products meshed very well with what OSI Group offers clients. He said the deal also included their facilities in the Netherland and Germany which matched his goal to expand food production in Europe.
Flagship Europe is another firm that David McDonald handled acquisition efforts in 2016. This company has its headquarters in the UK. He said that the deal was very similar to that of Baho Foods in that their products worked well with his firm’s and they also had great facilities that his company could use to expand their market presence.
