Sanjiv Mehra and Jonathan Teller are EOS’s cofounders and discovered a trend in the lip balm market. Lip balm companies were all using the same packaging for their products and were most focused on cutting costs. He saw an opportunity in the lip balm market to make a product that would stick out and not blend in with all the others. After much consumer research Mehra discovered that lip balm was used mainly by women and that many of them were having issues with losing the tubes in their purses. He also discovered that women surveyed liked the item of lip balm coming in pots but were concerned about germs due to putting their fingers in the pots. After testing many product designs the sphere shade was decided on. This shape is easy for women to find in their purse and also enjoyable to put on. The soft plastic design makes it feel nice in your hand while applying. Also, the brightly colored spheres are eye-catching.
